Sesamoids – Really that much pain?

The sesamoids are two tiny little pea sized bones that float underneath the big toe in the substance of the tendons.

Sportsmen can injure and even fracture them, but this is a rare injury.

Much more common is the pain cause when the get inflammed from prolonged wearing of high heeled shoes.

Certainly wear them to special occaions and nights out, but ‘eight hour days’ in stilletoes are probably a bad idea.

Sometimes a steroid injection can help.  A biomechanics podiatrist can help you with footwear.

Very rarely is surgery indicated.
